Come Be Set Free. By Rhonda Kamps.
Bitterness usually starts where pain hasn’t been tended—old wounds, deep disappointment, or moments that felt unfair and unresolved. If left alone, it festers and grows, changing our view on how we see things, develops a deep lack of compassion, making it harder to love with freedom.
“For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” – Acts 8:23
Bitterness equates to poison.
But God invites us to live with hearts that stay gentle, not guarded and rigid. When we ask Him to protect us from bitterness, we are asking Him to step into the places that still sting, and bring His healing there. His grace can loosen the grip of resentment and trade that heaviness for peace. Releasing bitterness doesn’t pretend the hurt never happened—it simply places it into the hands of the One who can redeem it and make us whole.
As the Lord restores us, forgiveness becomes something we can actually reach for, and love begins to move through us again without feeling forced. A heart softened by God mirrors His mercy and keeps us spiritually awake—rooted in grace instead of trapped in yesterday’s pain.
Is God touching your heart in a way to expose the bitterness? He wants you to surrender fully and completely to Him. Healing starts to happen when you release it over to Him.
Pause today and ask God if there is any unresolved bitterness lying around that you need to hand over to Him. Let Him heal you of that destructive root of bitterness.
Join us on March 21st at the Hearts Being Healed Chico conference and listen to women share their stories of the redeeming power of God’s mercy, love and forgiveness.
