Do Not Worry. By Laura Carson.
We are commanded in God’s Word; “…do not worry about your life”. From Matthew 6:25 NKJV
In the same verse from The Passion Translation it states:
“This is why I tell you to never be worried about your life, for all that you need will be provided, such as food, water, clothing – everything your body needs. Isn’t there more to your life than a meal? Isn’t your body more than clothing?”
Food and water are for our nourishment. Clothing is for our protection from the elements and modesty. Though some folks serve certain foods not only for nourishment and enjoyment but perhaps to impress their guests. Some people wear particular clothing as a status symbol.
We are put here for God’s approval and to win folks to Christ. We are not here to win the approval of people.
If you want to be happy, place your attention on God.
I think much of our anxiety comes from trying to impress others. That idea is where the old expression “keeping up with the Joneses” comes from.
Matthew Chapter 6 goes on to say in verse 26 and 27:
“Look at all the birds—do you think they worry about their existence? They do not plant or reap or store up food, yet your heavenly Father provides them each with food. Aren’t you much more valuable to your Father than they? So, which one of you by worrying could add anything to your life?”
Be about the work of the Lord. Do not worry. Do not be anxious. It does no good. It will not lessen the problem or help you reach a solution.
And stress is not good for our body!
God knows what we need before we even ask. Often, we ask amiss. Don’t listen to what the world tells you that you need. God does provide our needs, not necessarily our wants.
Don’t get caught in the trap of desires that the world thinks should be our goals.
Many coaches say to their teams “Keep your eye on the goal”.
Where is your focus?
Fear, worry or anxiety can be overcome by changing your focus.
Make God your focus.
If you are anxious about something, give it to God and don’t take it back!
Philippians 4:6-
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, et your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
