SOUL CARE. By Janet Henman.
I have been reading a book called “Soul Care” by Dr. Rob Reimer. In his book he addresses the deepest issues of the human experience as an invitation to surrender to God’s transforming work of healing and freedom. He states that everywhere we go brokenness grasps for the soul of humanity. We are broken- body, soul, and spirit- and we need the healing touch of Jesus.
This book focuses on the healing of the soul. Jesus can lead us out of brokenness into wholeness, and He gives 7 Soul Care Principles from scripture as healing tools of God. These are some basic spiritual truths and realities we can access that lead us to a healthier soul.
- Identity- Your identity in Christ is the foundation of a healthy soul.
- Repentance- You must repent and receive the forgiveness of God in order to be free.
- Breaking Family Sin Patterns- Family sin patterns have unusual pull on our lives and they are hard to break.
- Forgiving Others- You need to forgive those who sin against you.
- Healing Hurts- Unprocessed wounds leave you with festering soul sores.
- Overcoming Fears- The people of God make more mistakes in times of fear than any other time.
- Breaking Demonic Strongholds- We have a real spiritual enemy who can be a foothold in our lives.
I think the one that stood out to me the most was that of Identity. The key problem with identity is that we often believe lies about ourselves rather than the truth. What you believe about yourself is the foundation of your life, and a faulty foundation will create cracks in your soul. Before I became a Christian, I believed I was unlovable and couldn’t be forgiven because of mistakes I had made in my life.
After I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I became a new creation as the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation in Christ; old things have passed away.”
God’s love for us is rooted in God’s grace to us. God doesn’t love us because of who we are or what we did. God loves us because of who He is and what He has done for us on the cross.
I had to receive and believe these truths! I had to see myself as He saw me: a child of the one true King! Condemnation no longer had to be a part of my identity. HIS TRUTH- He loved me just as I was with all my imperfections and faults and He just wanted a relationship with me. He wanted me to release my sins to Him and lay them at the foot of the cross!
1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
My life verse has become, “If you know the truth, the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
God wants us to live a life worthy of an “Identity” rooted in God’s radical love for us!
Come join us and begin the Soul Care God wants for you!
