The Reward of Faith. By Laura Carson.
Here it is the eleventh month and I find myself rereading Hebrews chapter 11. Faith is the emphasis and focus of this chapter. Verse 11:6 in the Passion Translation:
” And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that He is real and that He rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him”.
Hebrews chapter 11 is often referred to as the “Hall of Faith”. Listed among the faithful is Rahab. In Jericho when people talked about Rahab, they probably whispered. She was a harlot; but she was a harlot with a destiny. She did not know the God of Israel, but He knew her. And He had a plan for her before her plans included Him.
She was brave enough to hide Joshua’s two spies and cunning enough to keep from getting caught. She was key to the success of their mission and so to Israel’s victorious arrival in the land that God promised. But as important as Rahab’s cooperation was to this military operation, Rahab herself was even more important to God.
He wanted to make the harlot holy. He wanted to clean her up and make her pure. He wanted to be her God and to give her a love unlike any she had ever known. So God arranged for the spies to show up on her doorstep, and sometime during that divine appointment, she rejected her pagan ways and declared, ” The Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” Joshua 2:11c NKJV
God is not looking for women who appear to be perfect. He is looking for women who are willing. He is looking for women who have Rahab’s kind of courage. He is looking for women who will risk everything to trust Him. He is eager to forgive sin and to use people in spite of their past. God redeemed Rahab to the point that she is listed with other godly men and women in the Hebrews 11 “Hall of Faith”.
So dear women, do you have a past that you are not proud of? Never think that you have exhausted God’s mercy. Never think that He cannot make you clean. Never think that you are not good enough to be used mightily in His service. Whatever you have done, whatever has been done to you, He wants you. And He calls you now to take your place in His eternal plan. Won’t you take that first step of faith? Just bow your head and ask Jesus to come into your heart, to forgive all of your sins and be Lord of your life.
Hebrews 12 TPT:
” As for us, we have all these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out for us. “
