In the first book of the Bible Genesis 1:3-4 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good…”

In John 8:12 “…I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” NKJV

People often compare Jesus, “the Light of the World”, to a lighthouse. Lighthouses provide an earthly example of a spiritual principle. We live in a dark world filled with troubles. Jesus’ light and love beams through the oppression to guide us into the peace of God’s presence.

Wikipedia describes a lighthouse as a tower, building or other type of physical structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a beacon for navigational aid, for maritime pilots at sea or inland waterways.

Initially lighthouses signaled a port or establishment.  As time went on, they became more of a warning to ships about reefs, dangerous rocks and shallow waters.

Often for a sailor headed back from a long voyage a lighthouse signified the end of a journey; spreading hope that home is just ahead.

Light is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible.  God gives the LIGHT which is Jesus, to His children and we in turn are to share it to a needy world.

Just like a lighthouse, a person who serves as a guiding force helps others navigate through tough times.  Whether it’s offering advice, a listening ear, or providing support, being a lighthouse means sharing Jesus’ light to brighten someone else’s journey.

A few years ago, HBH lost one of our sisters, Betty Bestwick.  She loved lighthouses.  And Betty was a lighthouse!  God placed her exactly where she needed to be.  Betty was an administrative secretary for a Funeral Home.  Betty was the first face you would see upon entering the business.  She had a huge bright smile that lit up the room!  She comforted those that were grieving and helped guide them through all the steps necessary for closure of their loved one’s life.  Betty also was a listener for all her coworkers.  And Betty gave the best warm, loving hugs!

Now that our Christmas holiday has passed, and all the festive lights have been packed away, always remember that Jesus is the Light of the World!

And I pray that you see the Light, truly feel the Light, invite Jesus the Light of the World into your heart.

Then share the Light!
